Self Esteem Drops New Single Alongside Massive Autumn UK Tour News

by | Mar 25, 2025

Self Esteem – AKA Rebecca Lucy Taylor – has released her new single If Not Now, It’s Soon, debuting as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record and available to stream and download now, alongside a video by regular collaborator Piers Dennis.

If Not Now It’s Soon was partly inspired by Taylor’s years before her rise to fame – a time of hypersexuality, booze and self-destruction that precipitated the creation of Self Esteem. “You wonder who it was who made the choices in that town”, she sings, questioning her treatment of herself, while actress – and friend – Julie Hesmondalgh gives a call to arms: “Something will happen because it’s got to – it’s not just perseverance we need, it’s patience.”

It is about marrying the two things, Taylor explains: “Personally, you have to wait and one day you’ll get somewhere less painful. But the world will hopefully get somewhere less painful too. It’s about hope, perseverance and patience!”

If Not Now It’s Soon is the third song to be lifted from Self Esteem’s eagerly anticipated new album A Complicated Woman, due for release 25 April via Polydor Records. The album is the follow up to the hugely acclaimed BRIT and Mercury Prize-nominated 2021 album Prioritise Pleasure – an album of the year everywhere from the Guardian to the Sunday Times.

Britainicana Is Louder That Americana: Westside Cowboy Stampede Through Portsmouth

Manchester-based quartet Westside Cowboy have only been together since 2023, but have already caused a stir. They have even coined a genre of their own – Britainicana. Even though the name suggests US country with a miserable and sarcastic British twist, they have created something much more fun.

Midweek Metal Mass: Lacuna Coil Blaze Through Leeds Stylus

Italian goth heavyweights Lacuna Coil turn Tuesday into a blackout ritual at Leeds Stylus, backed by a fired-up opening assault from Florida bruisers Nonpoint.

Nonpoint hit the stage like they’ve been itching for it all day. Elias Soriano stalks the mic with clipped precision, spitting hooks and commands in equal measure. Robb Rivera goes straight for the gut behind the kit, while Adam Woloszyn grinds out bass lines with industrial weight. Guitarist’s Jaysin Zeilstra and Rasheed Thomas add bite and distortion, feeding the noise without ever tipping it into clutter. The band sound more drilled-in than on their last UK run — tighter, sharper, still proudly abrasive.
