Australian indie outfit Sesame Girl return with a radiant new offering in Superstar, a track that leans into warmth, sincerity and shimmering guitar-driven charm as the band continue to refine their evolving sound.
Built around buoyant acoustic guitars and an instantly memorable chorus, Superstar delivers an emotional punch without losing its lightness. The track’s centrepiece is the unmistakable voice of Heather Duncan, whose performance captures both tenderness and quiet strength as she celebrates the power of friendship. Lyrically, it’s a song about showing up for the people who matter—championing their highs and supporting them through everything else.
In Duncan’s words, “Superstar is a sincere ode to friendship and wanting the best for the people you love. It’s about celebrating their wins, while also being there for them no matter what they’re going through.”
The single marks the band’s second collaboration with GRAMMY®-winning producer Simon Lam, known for his work with Charli XCX, The Temper Trap and Allday. Following on from earlier track Back To Texas, Superstar further highlights a creative reinvention that feels both confident and authentic.
Formed in Canberra, Sesame Girl first turned heads with their 2022 debut EP Lucky Charm, a release that introduced their blend of textured vocals, emotive songwriting and ’90s-tinged indie guitar work. Since then, the band have steadily built their reputation on stage, sharing bills with the likes of MAY-A, Vacations and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, as well as supporting established names including Spacey Jane, Grinspoon and You Am I.
With Superstar, Sesame Girl continue to carve out a space that feels both nostalgic and fresh—melding heartfelt indie sensibilities with an ear for melodic hooks that linger long after the final chorus fades.
At its core, Superstar is a celebration of connection—simple in its message, but delivered with a clarity and charm that suggests Sesame Girl are firmly on an upward trajectory.
