Australian indie outfit Sesame Girl have released their new EP, Butterfly Wing In A Silver Locket, alongside the charming new single Prettiest Girl In The World, arriving with an accompanying music video that further showcases the band’s warm, nostalgic and emotionally resonant songwriting.

Produced by Simon Lam—whose work has spanned artists including Armlock, Kllo and Charli XCX—the new EP sees Sesame Girl expand upon the dreamy indie-rock foundations that have steadily earned them a growing following. Blending shimmering guitars with earthy acoustic textures, the collection embraces both intimacy and widescreen atmosphere, creating a sound that feels equally timeless and contemporary.
Frontwoman Heather Duncan explains that the EP’s title has deep personal significance, inspired by a lifelong fascination with butterflies and the sentimental symbolism of a treasured keepsake. “I’ve always been really obsessed with butterflies ever since I was a little kid, and so the title Butterfly Wing In A Silver Locket feels very sentimental,” Duncan says. “A locket to me is also the ultimate accessory of sentimentality, like wearing a photo of someone you love in a necklace. That’s so special.”
That sense of nostalgia runs throughout the EP, both lyrically and sonically. Duncan also revealed that working with Lam encouraged the band to experiment with a wider palette of organic instrumentation while retaining the hazy guitar-driven sound that has become a hallmark of Sesame Girl’s music: “While we were recording we were really into the natural, organic texture of sounds like banjo and slide and acoustic guitar. We paired all those with some more gazey and crunchy guitar tones to create something that feels really unique and genuine to us.”
Leading the release is Prettiest Girl In The World, a heartfelt new track that captures the band’s gift for pairing vulnerable storytelling with infectious indie melodies. The accompanying video complements the song’s bittersweet tone, highlighting the emotional sincerity that has become central to Sesame Girl’s songwriting.
Originally formed in Ngunnawal Country, Canberra, Sesame Girl first emerged with their debut EP Lucky Charm in 2022. Their blend of heartfelt lyricism, ’90s-inspired alternative rock influences and melodic indie-pop quickly established them as one of Australia’s most promising emerging acts.
Since then, the quartet have continued to build momentum through an impressive run of support slots alongside artists including Spacey Jane, Grinspoon, You Am I, Spiderbait, MAY-A, Vacations, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, The Belair Lip Bombs and British India, while also appearing at major Australian festivals including Spilt Milk and Yours and Owls.
To celebrate the release of Butterfly Wing In A Silver Locket, Sesame Girl will embark on an Australian headline tour this month, culminating with an appearance at the Bloomfield Music and Arts Festival in New South Wales.
