Skunk Anansie Unveil Powerful Visual For Deeply Personal New Single ‘Shame’

British rock legends Skunk Anansie have released a striking new video for their latest single Shame, a raw and emotional track that sees frontwoman Skin dive deep into her own past, confronting complex family dynamics and personal identity with unflinching honesty.

Taken from their critically acclaimed UK Top 10 album The Painful Truth, Shame continues the band’s fearless tradition of challenging norms through music that’s both intimate and explosive. The video offers a visual reflection of the song’s emotional heft, serving as what Skin describes as “a cathartic expression of exorcising past demons.”

Shame is one of the most personal songs we’ve ever written,” Skin shared. “Many of us feel or get unconnected to our families because of the lives we need to lead in order to be happy. Sometimes they just can’t understand who we are if we are not like them, and there’s a lot of shame and hurt in that.”

The track is a dedication to “those outcasts,” she adds — “to those kids that go on to find new families that support and love them, give them hope and help them find true contentment.”

The Shame video marries Skunk Anansie’s visceral energy with evocative imagery, offering fans a window into Skin’s personal journey while speaking universally to anyone who has ever felt alienated or misunderstood. It’s yet another moment of vulnerability from a band who, even decades into their career, continue to push boundaries and speak truth to power.

The song follows a string of standout singles from The Painful Truth, an album that has been hailed as one of Skunk Anansie’s most vital and affecting bodies of work to date. With its mix of blistering riffs, electronic flourishes, and soul-baring lyricism, the record marks both a reckoning and a celebration — of self, survival, and strength.
