Soccer Mommy, the Nashville-based musical project of Sophie Allison, returns with Rings of Saturn, her first new song in two years and the first taste of a new chapter following her acclaimed 2024 album Evergreen. Produced by Elliott Kozel, whose credits include work with Rosalia, Björk, SZA, Slow Pulp and Indigo De Souza, Rings of Saturn finds Allison looking outward — quite literally — as she reflects on a difficult period through the simple act of stargazing.

The song is rooted in a feeling of uncertainty and the search for something capable of providing perspective when everything closer to home feels overwhelming. Allison explains that she wrote the track during a particularly difficult time, when she would regularly take her telescope into the yard to look at the moon and planets.
That sense of looking beyond the immediate is central to Rings of Saturn, with the vastness of space becoming a way of making personal troubles feel smaller. The accompanying visualiser, created by Suji Park, mirrors that atmosphere, giving the song a mesmerising visual counterpart that complements its sense of distance, wonder and introspection.
For Soccer Mommy, the release follows a particularly significant period on the road. Allison recently joined Liz Phair and Sleater-Kinney on tour, opening for two artists who have been important influences on her musical development. Now she is preparing for a different kind of reunion, as Soccer Mommy joins forces with longtime friend and fellow indie-rock artist Snail Mail for an extensive US co-headline tour.
The pairing brings together two artists whose careers have developed alongside one another and who have maintained a close friendship throughout their rise through the independent music scene. The tour offers fans the opportunity to see both projects share the bill across a run of dates stretching from the East Coast through the Midwest and South before concluding later in the year.
The tour begins in Charlotte, North Carolina, on 30 September, with early dates taking in Silver Spring, Sayreville, New Haven, Providence, Albany and Pittsburgh. The two artists then continue through Madison, Saint Paul and DeKalb before heading south, with stops in Bentonville, Nashville, Orlando, Miami, Tampa, New Orleans, Birmingham, Columbia, Richmond and Wilmington.
The run resumes in November with a solo Soccer Mommy performance in Portland before Allison appears at Raised by Sound Fest in Memphis in December. Support across the co-headline dates comes from Brennan Wedl and Scarlet Rae, while the Portland performance is billed as a solo show.
For Allison, the arrival of Rings of Saturn comes after Evergreen, the fourth studio album released under the Soccer Mommy name. The 2024 record continued to build on the intimate songwriting, textured indie-rock and emotional directness that have defined Allison’s work since her earliest releases.
Over the past decade, Soccer Mommy has developed from Allison’s bedroom-recording project into one of the most recognisable names in contemporary indie music. Her songwriting has consistently balanced personal vulnerability with expansive arrangements, creating songs that can feel intimate while still carrying a distinctly widescreen quality. Rings of Saturn now opens the door to whatever comes next.
With its celestial imagery, reflective mood and sense of searching for hope beyond the immediate world, the new single suggests an artist continuing to explore how songwriting can transform difficult experiences into something more expansive. And with a major co-headline tour alongside Snail Mail about to begin, Soccer Mommy is returning to the road at precisely the moment a new chapter begins.
