SOMBR To Make UK Arena Debut At The O2 As Part Of Venue’s 20th Birthday Celebrations

by | Sep 1, 2026

SOMBR will make his UK arena debut at London’s The O2 next summer, joining the venue’s growing 20th birthday celebrations with a headline show on Tuesday 22nd June 2027. The announcement adds one of music’s fastest-rising young stars to an increasingly diverse birthday line-up, which will see The O2 celebrate two decades of live entertainment throughout summer 2027.

SOMBR’s appearance follows the announcement of shows from Maisie Peters, Shreya Ghoshal, Don Omar and Jorja Smith, with further artists still to be revealed.

Emma Bownes, Senior Vice President, Venue Programming AEG International, says: “We’re delighted to welcome SOMBR to The O2 for what will be his UK arena debut. As one of the most exciting artists in music today, it’s a real honour that he joins our 20th Birthday line up as we celebrate two decades of live entertainment at The O2.”

For SOMBR, the show represents another major milestone in a remarkably rapid ascent. Born Shane Boose, the 20-year-old New York native began making music from a makeshift bedroom studio on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, teaching himself production while studying classical music and vocal performance at LaGuardia High School.

That DIY beginning has since developed into a global career, with SOMBR combining arena-sized pop, indie melancholy and glam-rock charisma with intensely personal songwriting centred on the complexities of young love.

His breakthrough arrived with back to friends, which became a global streaming phenomenon, reaching Number One on Spotify’s Global and US charts and subsequently climbing to Number Seven on the Billboard Hot 100. The track also spent five weeks at Number One on Alternative Radio, helping transform SOMBR from emerging bedroom artist into one of the most talked-about new acts of his generation.

The momentum has continued through sold-out headline tours across North America, the UK, Europe and Australia/New Zealand, with the young artist’s rapidly expanding fanbase demonstrating the scale of his international appeal.

SOMBR’s debut album, I Barely Know Her, further established his musical identity, combining vulnerable songwriting with a widescreen production style. The album was co-produced with Tony Berg, whose credits include work with artists such as Phoebe Bridgers and The Replacements, and saw three of its singles chart simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100.

His growing profile was further underlined in 2026 with a Best New Artist GRAMMY® nomination, an appearance at the MTV VMAs that resulted in a Best Alternative win, performances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and a high-profile appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Now SOMBR is set to bring that rapidly expanding live show to one of the UK’s biggest indoor stages.

Gareth Griffiths, Director, Partnerships and Sponsorships, Virgin Media O2, says: “SOMBR’s rise has been nothing short of stratospheric, and we’re delighted to welcome him to The O2. As part of the 20th birthday celebrations, we’re bringing some of the world’s most exciting and exceptional artists to our stage, and our line-up simply wouldn’t be complete without the man of the moment, SOMBR.”

The O2’s birthday celebrations are designed to reflect the breadth of artists and audiences the venue has welcomed since opening in 2007. Over the past two decades, the 23,000-capacity arena has hosted more than 3,000 shows and welcomed over 100 million visitors, becoming one of the world’s busiest and most recognisable live entertainment destinations.

The venue has sold more than 30 million tickets since opening and currently hosts more than 200 events each year. Its wider entertainment complex also includes the 2,750-capacity indigo at The O2, Up at The O2, Outlet Shopping at The O2 and an extensive selection of bars, restaurants and leisure attractions.

For SOMBR, however, the focus will be firmly on the arena stage and the opportunity to make his first UK arena headline appearance as part of The O2’s landmark anniversary.

With the venue promising many more birthday announcements, SOMBR’s June 2027 show looks set to be one of the key dates in a summer designed to celebrate both The O2’s remarkable history and the artists shaping the future of live music.
