Sophie Grey Brings ‘Retro Electro’ To The Big Stage With Sting Collab And New Music Video

by | Jun 13, 2025

Armed with a keytar, a singular sonic aesthetic, and an unapologetic love for retro-electro vibes, Sophie Grey is carving her place on the global stage — one synth-heavy track at a time. This summer, the rising artist has not only opened arena shows across Europe but has also shared the stage with none other than Sting, adding her signature flair to performances of The Police classic Spirits In The Material World on his 3.0 tour.

The collaboration follows news of Sting’s support for emerging creatives through his recent gift to the Baltic Arts Centre in Gateshead — and Sophie is clearly one such talent benefitting from that spotlight. With her keytar slung across her shoulder and a style described by German media as “strongly influenced by retro-electronic sounds,” she has brought modern new wave to some of Europe’s grandest stages. “Her music is deeply rooted in the synth-pop traditions of the ‘80s, but her presence on stage is entirely now,” wrote one reviewer following her standout guest performance in Germany.

The rising star has also just released the official video for Maybe, Baby, the lead single from her EP Just Another Sonic Monday™, out now via Cherrytree Music Company. Drenched in analog synths, pastel colour palettes, and strobe-lit nostalgia, the video is a striking visual counterpart to her genre-bending sound — one that draws on everything from new wave to modern electropop.

The EP sees the classically-trained pianist and producer showcasing her multidimensional artistry. A graduate of the Thornton School of Music at USC, Sophie was mentored by the legendary Dr. Patrice Rushen (Forget Me Nots), and developed her production skills between Kansas City and Los Angeles, including stints at The Village Recorder Studios.

Her resume extends beyond her solo work too. She recently toured with America’s Got Talent’s Lily Meola, providing keyboards and backing vocals, and also appeared on Good Morning America, playing with GRAMMY®-winner Shaggy.

But 2025 is fast becoming the year Sophie Grey takes centre stage. She makes her major festival debut at the Isle Of Wight Festival next week (Friday 20th June), performing on the River Stage — a platform that has previously hosted emerging acts like Andrew Cushin and 86TVs. With Sting headlining the festival that day, might we be in for another outing of Sophie + Sting?

From TikTok virality to European tour buses and headline festival slots, she is building a career that defies easy categorisation — blending classical roots, electronic production, and magnetic stage presence. Her music may pay homage to the past, but her future is firmly in technicolour.
