Sophie Grey. Reimagines ‘Video Killed The Radio Star’ Ahead Of London Dates Supporting Sting

by | Oct 24, 2025

Rising electronic pop artist Sophie Grey. returns with a dazzling new take on Video Killed the Radio Star, reworking the Buggles’ 1979 classic into a lush, synth-driven dreamscape. The single — out now — arrives as Sophie prepares to open for Sting across three London shows later this month as part of her global Middle of October tour.

Sophie’s reinterpretation brings a futuristic energy to the original, transforming its bright, bouncy hooks into a slow-burning, cinematic ballad. True to her self-described “Retro Electro” aesthetic, the track shimmers with 80s-inspired textures, glistening synths and a sense of wistful nostalgia.

Accompanying the release is a striking retro-futurist music video, directed by Maximilian Stafford, which captures Sophie performing the track in a single mesmerising take. Wearing a bespoke “Versailles-meets-outer-space” gown, she channels her signature blend of vintage opulence and sci-fi surrealism — an aesthetic she’s fast becoming known for.

Speaking about the song, Sophie says: “Video Killed the Radio Star is a timeless song — as history repeats itself and electronics rise again.”

The single follows Sophie’s recent release, Mommy Issues — a playful yet emotionally charged track that showcases her knack for combining heartfelt lyricism with infectious, synth-driven production. Both songs highlight her evolution as one of electro-pop’s most intriguing new voices.

A classically trained pianist and keyboardist, Sophie studied at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, where she was mentored by GRAMMY®-nominated musician Dr. Patrice Rushen (Forget Me Nots). Drawing on influences from new wave, soul, and hip hop, she merges live instrumentation with polished electronic soundscapes — all written, arranged, and produced herself.

The Middle of October tour sees Sophie supporting a range of legendary acts, including Shaggy, Marianas Trench, and Sting — with her upcoming London dates set for O2 Forum Kentish Town (24th October) and two nights at Eventim Apollo (26th & 27th October).

Armed with her trademark keytar and a futuristic vision for pop, Sophie Grey. continues to carve her own path through the electro landscape — one shimmering hook at a time.
