Steve Hackett Brings ‘The Lamb’ Roaring Back To Life With Royal Albert Hall Live Release

by | Jun 19, 2025

Progressive rock icon and former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett has announced the release of The Lamb Stands Up Live At The Royal Albert Hall, a landmark live recording of his spectacular October 2024 performance at London’s world-famous concert hall. Set to be released on 11th July 2025 via InsideOutMusic, the multi-format audio-visual collection captures a night that paid electrifying homage to one of the most ambitious and influential albums in rock history — Genesis’ 1974 opus The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

The performance was part of Hackett’s celebrated tour marking the 50th anniversary of The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The evening saw him and his formidable band breathe new life into the concept album’s most powerful moments while weaving in fan-favourite Genesis classics and selections from his own recent solo material, including 2024’s acclaimed The Circus And The Nightwhale.

To coincide with the announcement, Hackett has shared a live performance video of Fly On A Windshield, one of the standout tracks from the original Lamb album. The blistering rendition features a special guest appearance from Marillion guitarist Steve Rothery, trading soaring solos with Hackett in a captivating display of musical synergy. “Fly On A Windshield is one of my favourite moments on the album,” says Hackett. “I very much enjoyed creating my guitar contribution for this track, and on this release is also Steve Rothery’s fabulous contribution, as we exchange licks.”

The concert was further elevated by appearances from Stiltskin and former Genesis frontman Ray Wilson, Hackett’s long-time collaborator Amanda Lehmann, his brother and flautist John Hackett, and Rothery. Together they delivered a dazzling, immersive performance in front of a sold-out Royal Albert Hall crowd, blending atmospheric theatrics with virtuosic musicianship.

“I was so happy to revisit The Lamb on tour,” Hackett reflects. “The Royal Albert Hall evening was particularly memorable. It is my favourite London venue and the atmosphere there that night was absolutely electric… I was really pleased that everyone in the band and the performing guests pulled it off with flying colours!”

The release is sonically sculpted by GRAMMY® Award-winning mixing engineer Chris Lord-Alge, with mastering by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound. The concert was visually captured by Paul M Green, Hackett’s long-time video collaborator.

This release is another jewel in Hackett’s crown as one of the foremost interpreters and custodians of Genesis’ legendary early catalogue. While his solo work continues to push boundaries, his live shows have become renowned for keeping the band’s progressive spirit alive — with a level of fidelity, authenticity, and passion that fans revere.

In fact, Hackett’s ability to balance reverence for the original material with fresh energy has seen his tours consistently sell out across the globe. The Lamb Highlights & Genesis Greats tour continues across Europe, Japan (July), Italy (September), and North America (October–November).

This new release follows the early 2025 unveiling of Live Magic At Trading Boundaries, an intimate acoustic album that highlighted another dimension of Hackett’s live artistry.

With The Lamb Stands Up Live At The Royal Albert Hall, Steve Hackett not only reaffirms the monumental status of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway in rock history but continues to demonstrate why he remains one of the most vital live performers of his generation.
