Originally appearing on Scott-Heron’s 1971 debut Pieces Of A Man, the song is a soulful ode to music’s power to uplift and heal. Supergrass’s live interpretation retains that intimacy while layering it with the atmospheric textures and reflective tones that defined Road To Rouen, widely regarded as the band’s most personal and experimental work.

The Ronnie Scott’s performance has long been remembered as a highlight of the band’s mid-2000s live sets, showcasing their ability to move beyond Britpop anthems into more soulful and expansive territory. Speaking on the release, bassist Mick Quinn recalled: “Great to hear this again after all these years, with the very talented Satin Singh on congas. If I remember, we all had raging hangovers from playing Hammersmith Working Men’s Club with John Cooper Clarke the night before, who insisted on calling Danny, Mini Cooper.”

The reissue of Road To Rouen will be available digitally, on gatefold 2LP Petrol and Forest Green vinyl, and as a 2CD digisleeve. Both physical formats include a booklet featuring new liner notes by broadcaster Mark Radcliffe. Alongside the remastered album, fans will receive a selection of live recordings, the long-circulated Débranché acoustic set, and the previously unreleased studio track Don’t Leave Me Alone.

Originally released in August 2005, Road To Rouen reached #9 in the UK Albums Chart and marked a stylistic departure for the Oxford quartet, embracing orchestral arrangements and more introspective songwriting.
