Australian country-pop powerhouse Tori Darke returns with her infectious new single, Who I Am (Without You), transforming the pain of a breakup into an upbeat celebration of self-discovery and starting over. Following her previous single Prettiest Wreck, Darke continues a run of songs examining the emotional fallout of relationships. Where that earlier release explored the messiness of heartbreak, however, Who I Am (Without You) shifts the perspective towards confidence and clarity, turning the end of a relationship into the beginning of something new.
“I wrote this song right after a breakup that felt like the end of the world at the time,” Darke explains. “Coming back to it now, it still says exactly what I needed to say – that heartbreak doesn’t have to be the end of your story, it can be the start of finding out who you actually are.”
The song’s message is ultimately one of resilience, aimed at anyone who has had to rediscover themselves after a relationship comes to an end. “This one’s for anyone who’s ever had to rebuild themselves after someone walked out,” Darke adds. “I promise, the other side is a lot more fun than you think.”
The new single arrives following a landmark summer for Darke, who made her UK debut at Country Calling Festival in Chelmsford on 16th August. She headlined the festival’s Homestead Stage before joining fellow Australian country artist James Johnston on the main stage for a special performance of SAME SONGS.
The collaboration provided a fitting introduction to Darke for UK audiences, with the two Australian artists coming together thousands of miles from home to celebrate country music’s increasingly international reach. Their performance highlighted how the genre has developed far beyond its American roots, connecting artists and audiences across continents through shared musical traditions and stories.
Darke’s arrival in the UK comes as her career continues to gather momentum in Australia and internationally. Recognised for her powerhouse vocals, candid songwriting and commanding stage presence, she has established herself as one of the country’s emerging country artists, combining contemporary country-pop accessibility with the grit and emotional honesty of traditional country storytelling.
Her rise accelerated in 2024 when she joined Australian country music veteran Lee Kernaghan on a national tour, gaining further experience on some of the country’s biggest stages. Later that year, she stepped into the national spotlight on Channel 7’s The Voice Australia, turning chairs and becoming part of Team LeAnn Rimes. Her time on the programme also led to a memorable musical partnership with Brad Butcher. The pair developed a strong chemistry through a series of performances, including their reimagined take on a Fleetwood Mac classic.
More recently, Darke’s collaboration with Jay Santilli, Trouble, has been building momentum across multiple radio charts and received an APRA Music Awards nomination in 2026, adding another significant milestone to a rapidly developing catalogue.
2026 has already proved to be an especially busy year for the singer. In June, she travelled to Nashville for CMA Fest, performing on the Fan Fair X Tractor Supply Spotlight Stage, before continuing her international festival run with appearances at Country Jam USA in Wisconsin and Country Calling in the UK. Her calendar remains packed, with a performance at the iconic Deni Ute Muster in Australia scheduled for October.
