Emerging Americana voice Alex Amen has announced his debut album Sun Of Amen, set for release on 12th June, alongside the unveiling of his new single Diamonds.
A 26-year-old Texas-born artist with a restless creative spirit, Amen has taken an unconventional path to this moment. His music—rooted in indie folk and country traditions—feels both timeless and quietly modern, shaped by years of movement, solitude and immersion in the natural world.
Diamonds offers a glimpse into the album’s emotional core. Expansive and wistful, the track reflects on love, loss and the passage of time, drawing from Amen’s experiences living in California. Its slow-burning arrangement and rich textures mirror the reflective tone of the record as a whole, pairing introspective songwriting with a warm, analogue-leaning sound.
The journey to Sun Of Amen has been anything but conventional. At 18, Amen left Texas for California to study filmmaking before quickly abandoning academia in favour of a more nomadic lifestyle. From time spent at a commune with roots in 1960s counterculture to years of relative isolation on Washington’s Vashon Island—where he explored pursuits like mycology, mountaineering and boat building—his life experiences have deeply informed his songwriting.
Returning to California with a renewed focus, Amen began recording his early material independently, including The Zorthian Tapes, before committing fully to his debut album. Now based in Los Angeles, he has become part of a thriving new wave of folk and Americana artists reshaping the genre’s boundaries.
Produced by Amen and engineered by Jonny Bell—whose credits include Cage the Elephant and Chicano Batman—Sun Of Amen embraces a traditional recording approach. Sessions, partly held at the legendary Valentine Recording Studios, leaned on analogue techniques and vintage equipment, lending the album a textured, organic feel.
The record also features a cast of collaborators including multi-instrumentalist Tommy de Bourbon, known for his work with Lana Del Rey. Across its 11 tracks, the album unfolds with patience and depth, offering richly detailed snapshots of place, memory and emotion.
Beyond the studio, Amen has steadily built a reputation on the live circuit, performing at festivals such as Pitchfork London, Newport Folk Festival, Iceland Airwaves and Austin City Limits. He also recently appeared at Luck Reunion, hosted by Willie Nelson during SXSW.
For Amen, music and nature remain deeply intertwined forces. His songwriting reflects a belief in openness, connection and lived experience—an ethos that runs throughout Sun Of Amen. As he puts it, the more you follow that instinct, “the more life brings you songs.”
With his debut album on the horizon, Alex Amen emerges as a compelling new voice in contemporary Americana—one grounded in tradition yet shaped by a life lived off the beaten path.
