AlienBlaze Wants Enemies With Benefits

by | Aug 26, 2023

Up and coming British rocker AlienBlaze has just dropped her latest tune Enemies With Benefits, a filmic, genre-fluid, ‘villain era’ breakup song, loosely inspired by Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (and we mean “loosely”!). Finding influence from artists like Billie Eilish and Ashnikko to bands such as The Cure, Alice in Chains and Bring Me The Horizon, AlienBlaze has crafted a vision which embodies the spirit of music that has inspired her whilst creating her own completely unique sound.

AlienBlaze is a 20-year-old mad as hell singer/songwriter and lead guitarist crafting genre-fluid anthems resulting in a fascinating hybrid of everything from dark alternative pop, grunge and emo, to rock and electronic elements. Her dominating presence emits an angsty appeal, encouraging a sense of self-empowerment to her young audience.

In her school years, she spent most of her time at home through sickness, so spent hours and hours learning the electric guitar on her mum’s old guitar, wanting to play like her guitar inspirations Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains and Slash. Blaze’s sense of alienation from her peers is what inspired her to add the ‘alien’ part to her name as an artist. Covering topics such as the everyday experiences of a young adult, to more poetic themes including pathetic fallacy and imagery from nature, AlienBlaze delivers her message in a way that allows listeners from all walks of life to interpret it.

Her fierce new single was inspired by the fascination society has with hedonistic lifestyles and celebrity such as in film and television series like Gossip Girl and The Idol and also through social media. Produced by The Nocturns (Maisie Peters, Dylan, Lozeak), the track was also loosely inspired by Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and is noted by AlienBlaze as one of her favourite tracks she’s ever recorded.

Gone are the sparkled cowgirls and pop princesses of previous BST gigs. It’s the turn of the Baby Boomer generation to make up the core crowd of Hyde Park – a sea of grey hair, straw hats, and sensible shoes. They reapply sun cream religiously, have brought picnic blankets, and can be forgiven for taking their time getting up and down from the ground between acts. This is the generation that invented outdoor rock and folk festivals – and they’re here to show the rest of us how it’s done.

Yes, the beloved card game.
