London-based five-piece Baby Ghoul have arrived with their debut single Horseshoe, marking the first official release from one of the capital’s most intriguing emerging acts.
Blending soft grunge textures with dream pop atmospherics, Horseshoe introduces the band’s distinct sonic identity through a slow-burning arrangement of layered guitars and understated dynamics. At its core sits a reflective meditation on fortune, love and the consequences of choice, delivered through the intimate and expressive vocals of Aimee Gillingwater.
The track feels deliberately unhurried, allowing its emotional weight to build gradually. Drawing from a wide palette of influences—from ‘90s grunge to cinematic storytelling and country-leaning rock—Horseshoe creates a hazy, nostalgic atmosphere while remaining grounded in personal reflection. Gillingwater describes the song as a tribute to the people, places and experiences that have shaped her life, weaving together inspirations from cities including London, Auckland and California’s desert landscapes.
Released through a label founded by Daphne Guinness, Baby Ghoul’s debut signals a confident artistic introduction, hinting at a broader creative vision that extends beyond genre boundaries. The band’s aesthetic leans as much into mood and imagery as it does sound, suggesting a project built on both sonic and visual storytelling.
The single’s arrival follows a steady build of momentum on the live circuit. Recent appearances include a support slot at the iconic 100 Club alongside rising names, as well as a headline performance at Lost In Soho late last year. Tonight, the band celebrate the release with a headline show at Below Stone Nest, continuing to establish themselves as a compelling new presence in the capital’s underground scene.
With Horseshoe, Baby Ghoul offer a debut that feels both introspective and expansive—an early statement from a band already carving out their own space within the UK’s alternative landscape.
