New York City’s ever-evolving art-rock provocateurs BODEGA have announced details of their fourth studio album, All Inside Aquarium, due for release on 9th October via Chrysalis Records. Alongside the announcement, the band have unveiled the album’s expansive title track, offering the first full glimpse into what promises to be their most adventurous and musically expansive record to date.
The new single arrives accompanied by a visually inventive video directed by percussionist and vocalist Nikki Belfiglio, who painstakingly spent months constructing a miniature world inside a fish tank that serves as the album’s artwork. Bringing the handcrafted environment to life through green-screen wizardry, the clip captures the playful creativity and conceptual depth that have become hallmarks of the band’s work.
Since emerging with their acclaimed debut Endless Scroll in 2018, BODEGA have built a reputation as one of the most intellectually engaging and sonically unpredictable bands in modern guitar music. While their early releases often drew comparisons to post-punk pioneers thanks to their angular grooves and observational lyricism, All Inside Aquarium sees the quartet actively pushing beyond those boundaries.
Frontman and guitarist Ben Hozie describes the new single as an “existential anthem”, using the image of an aquarium to explore themes of interconnectedness, self-awareness and personal responsibility. Beneath its philosophical undercurrent, the track bursts with vibrant energy, propelled by driving rhythms, soaring guitar work and a newfound sense of melodic confidence.
That evolution extends across the entire album. Recorded in Leeds with producer Matt Peel and later mixed in Brighton by Theo Verney, All Inside Aquarium marks a significant shift in approach for the band. Unlike previous releases, which were often pieced together remotely, the new record was largely captured live in the studio, preserving the spontaneity and chemistry that have made BODEGA such a compelling live act.
The result is an album that embraces a broader sonic palette, drawing inspiration from late-’80s and early-’90s alternative rock while retaining the sharp intelligence that has always defined the band’s songwriting. Echoes of classic college rock, baggy grooves and guitar-driven anthems sit alongside moments of experimentation, creating a record that feels simultaneously nostalgic and forward-looking.
Lyrically, All Inside Aquarium also marks a shift. Where earlier records often tackled sociopolitical themes head-on, the new material leans more heavily into personal reflection, empathy and poetic storytelling. Songs explore emotional vulnerability, human connection and the search for meaning in an increasingly fragmented world.
Among the album’s most intriguing moments is a reimagining of Bob Dylan’s Slow Train, transformed through BODEGA’s distinctive lens, while tracks such as Literary World and Pick Up The Check showcase the band’s growing focus on narrative and emotional nuance.
The album announcement follows a busy period for the Brooklyn-based quartet, who continue to build momentum on both sides of the Atlantic. With sold-out shows already confirmed in London and Paris this autumn, and a fresh UK headline run scheduled for November, BODEGA’s profile continues to grow as they prepare to unveil their most fully realised statement to date.
