Glasgow duo Megan Pollock and Desmond Johnston, otherwise known Cowboy Hunters have shared their latest single, Shag Slags Not Flags, offering the heaviest and most politically charged preview yet of their forthcoming EP EPeepee, set for release on 20th March.
Following earlier singles Money For Drugs and Have A Pint, the new track finds the band taking aim at the online culture wars with their trademark irreverence. Shag Slags Not Flags skewers the army of keyboard warriors who fill social media comment sections with nationalist rhetoric, with the band drawing a tongue-in-cheek connection between online rage and personal dissatisfaction.
Musically, the track marks one of Cowboy Hunters’ most crushing moments to date. Opening with thick, sludgy riffs that return throughout the song, the duo trade vocal lines before joining forces on the chant-like chorus that delivers the track’s bluntly memorable title. Beneath the humour sits a darker, doomy undercurrent, hinting at the pair’s past explorations of heavier sonic territory.
Alongside the new single, Cowboy Hunters have also unveiled details of their official fan club — hosted, somewhat predictably for a band of their mischief-making reputation, on OnlyFans. After repeatedly being told in their comment sections to start an account, the duo have decided to lean into the joke and monetise the demand, inviting curious fans to subscribe and “see exactly what the band have to offer”.
The release continues the momentum building around the band as they prepare to drop EPeepee later this month. Over the past few years, Cowboy Hunters have built a reputation as one of the UK’s most chaotic and unpredictable live acts, sharing stages with artists including Franz Ferdinand, English Teacher, Bob Vylan and Sleaford Mods.
Their relentless touring schedule continues this spring with a run of dates alongside Witch Fever, before festival appearances later in the year including The Great Escape Festival, 2000trees Festival and End Of The Road Festival.
