Indigenous-fronted punk band Dead Pioneers have announced their third studio album, Wagon Burner, set for release on 26th June 26th. The announcement lands alongside their defiant new single No Kings, a searing anthem tackling right-wing politics and government overreach.
Frontman Gregg Deal explains that the track was inspired by the No Kings protests across the U.S. last summer. “While the issues are obvious, it’s important that we all say it out loud,” Deal says. “We won’t allow our inherent rights to be trampled upon for the benefit of the Epstein Class… We are against dictators, authoritarian regimes, Nazis, fascism or any other power structure that seeks to take away the rights, freedoms or lives of human beings trying to live their life. To that, we keep it simple: NO KINGS.”
No Kings follows the release of the band’s earlier single Nazi Teeth, a furious blast against white supremacy, and continues the group’s raw, politically charged evolution. Deal describes Wagon Burner as “more collaborative,” with the record promising a heavier and more accessible sound layered with vicious hooks and contributions from Cheap Perfume, The Interrupters, and Sleaford Mods.
Dead Pioneers’ journey began in 2020 from Deal’s performance piece The Punk Pan-Indian Romantic Comedy, an exploration of identity and upbringing that fused spoken word with punk energy. The chemistry between Deal, drummer Shane Zweygardt, and guitarist Josh Rivera quickly turned a one-off concept into a fully fledged band. Their self-titled 2023 debut sold out multiple vinyl pressings, propelling them onto tours with punk mainstays including Pennywise, Propagandhi, and Pearl Jam.
Their third record, co-produced with Chris Beeble and recorded at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado, captures the band’s balance of fury, wit, and hope — a sonic stand against apathy in dark times.
