Ireland’s Ria Rua Drops Latest Single ‘I Love That For You’

by | Jan 17, 2025

Alt-rock Irish artist and producer Ria Rua has dropper her new single and music video Love That For You. Released today, I Love That For You bursts with moody, introspective melodies and industrial textures, while seamlessly blending whispery, haunting vocals. Though its origins are deeply personal, Rua’s latest touches on a universal struggle: How much can we truly be ourselves in a society that values compromise and conformity?

Commenting on the new single, Ria Rua says: “As a teenager music consumed me, but everyone around me thought my best option was to settle down, work at a shop, and marry a local farmer. It took years of constant struggle, with myself and with family and friends, to come to terms with my truth – I can only be happy being myself and living my life in a way that feels true to me. This song is about that journey, from fear to freedom.”

Ria Rua’s rise has been anything but conventional. Growing up in rural Meath, Ireland, she often felt like an outcast but found solace in music. From disrupting her mother’s choir practice as a child to becoming an in-demand drummer, her path has been a journey of self-discovery and defiance. Today, her music serves as a beacon for young neurodivergent and queer Irish women seeking freedom and self-expression.

Her recent singles You’ll Only Like Me When I’m Dead and I Want You have garnered critical acclaim, earning spots on Spotify’s New Music Friday and An Alternative Future, and widespread radio play across Ireland, the UK, Germany, and the US. She has graced stages at Dublin’s Vicar Street, supporting Soda Blonde, and headlined the 2023 Musictown Festival. With her debut album in the works, Ria Rua continues to carve out her place as a revolutionary voice in alt-rock.

On a rain-soaked evening in London, rising singer-songwriter Maya Lane celebrated the release of her brand-new EP The Hurt And The Healing with an intimate show at The Grace. Just weeks earlier, we had met under sunnier skies at The Long Road Festival, beers and whiskies in hand, denim and sunshine everywhere. Now, umbrellas and storm clouds in tow, it felt fitting that Lane’s new project, a record that navigates through storms towards moments of calm, should arrive on a night like this.
