Megan Moroney Delivers The Breakup Anthem Of The Summer With Fiery New Single ‘6 Months Later’

by | Jun 20, 2025

After weeks of building buzz across social media and on stage, country music powerhouse Megan Moroney has officially released her latest single, 6 Months Later. A fierce, tongue-in-cheek breakup anthem drenched in sass and soul, the track is poised to become the soundtrack of the summer — an unmissable moment from one of country’s most electrifying rising stars.

Written by Moroney alongside Ben Williams, David “Messy” Mescon, and Rob Hatch, 6 Months Later is a blistering, upbeat take on the classic tale of post-heartbreak glow-up. Armed with wry humour and emotional honesty, Moroney paints a vivid picture of romantic aftermath: “Let me set you the scene / November circa 2019 / Put a hole in my heart, watched it bleed…”

But this isn’t a wallowing heartbreak ballad. Instead, 6 Months Later is a playful punch back at a ghost from the past — the ex who only comes crawling back after you’ve moved on. With sharp production by longtime collaborator Kristian Bush (who helmed both Lucky and Am I Okay?), the track balances steel guitar twang with pop polish, upbeat rhythms, and a chorus that hits like a champagne bottle popping at the start of a hot girl summer: “It’s a tale as old as time I guess / When you couldn’t care more, I couldn’t care less / You’re a little too late to the party, heartbreaker / What doesn’t kill you calls you six months later.”

The song’s bridge is a standout — both musically and lyrically — as Moroney flips a famous saying on its head: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger / And blonder and hotter / Makes you wonder what you even saw in him at all.”

6 Months Later arrives hot on the heels of the massive success of Moroney’s sophomore album Am I Okay?, which debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and became the third-biggest debut by a female country artist in 2024. The album’s title track — a raw, anthemic powerhouse — recently hit No. 1 at country radio and earned Platinum certification, solidifying Moroney’s standing as one of the genre’s leading new voices.

Since the release of Am I Okay?, Moroney has been unstoppable: scoring over 3 billion global streams, selling out headline shows across the U.S. and overseas, and becoming a top name on festival lineups. She was recently honored with the Rulebreaker Award at the 2025 Billboard Women in Music event, and has picked up both New Female Artist of the Year (ACM Awards) and New Artist of the Year (CMA Awards) accolades.

Fresh off a capacity-busting appearance at CMA Fest — where fans packed the Chevy Riverfront Stage within minutes of her set announcement — Moroney is currently headlining the AM I OKAY? TOUR, a sprawling 50-date North American run that includes iconic stops like Red Rocks Amphitheatre (30th Sept), The Greek Theatre in LA (2nd & 3rd Oct), Texas Trust CU Theatre in Dallas (12th Oct), and Roadrunner in Boston (1st & 2nd Aug).

She’s also appearing at major summer festivals, including Buckeye Country Superfest (21st June), Cowboys Music Festival (4th July), and Windy City Smokeout (12th July). Meanwhile, she continues to write and record new music, teasing in a recent interview that her third album is already 80% written.

Since her debut, Megan Moroney has carved out her place in country music with a fearless lyrical style, emotional vulnerability, and a unique ability to blend traditional sounds with a modern edge. From her breakout 3X PLATINUM single Tennessee Orange, to the heart-wrenching ballad No Caller ID — which broke streaming records for a country female solo artist — Moroney has quickly become a generational voice, connecting with fans through both heartbreak and humour. With 6 Months Later, she reminds everyone exactly why she’s on top: confident, clever, and completely in command.

Sykamore Shines At The Long Road Festival

The late summer sun bathed Stanford Hall in gold as festival-goers wandered the grounds, the hum of distant stages blending with laughter and chatter. It was here, amid the vibrant energy of the festival, that I caught up with Sykamore, whose warmth and approachability are as inviting as the storytelling in her music.

Reading Festival 2025 – Saturday: Sunburn, Lasers, Cameos, And A Headliner Victory Lap

If Friday at Reading Festival was about finding your feet, Saturday was about losing them. The sun had its claws in early—factor 50 was gone before noon, hats and sunglasses swapped around like currency. The site buzzed with that second-day mix of exhaustion and momentum: sore voices shouting louder than they should, hangovers beaten back by adrenaline, and the knowledge that today’s bill wasn’t going to let up. Reading in daylight is one thing. Reading on a Saturday is something else entirely.

Reading Festival 2025 – Friday: Goths At Brunch, Punks By Tea, Pop Saints At Dusk

Reading Festival doesn’t creep in, it descends. By Friday morning the site was already a sprawl of tents, flags and bleary eyes, the air carrying equal parts burnt coffee, mud and anticipation. The first day always feels like a reset: thousands of people shaking off the motorway, testing their voices, queuing for the first overpriced pint with the giddiness of kids at a fair. The promise is simple—three days where every stage might give you your new favourite band or a story you’ll tell until next year.
