San Francisco-hailing Train have released their new single The Weekend, marking the start of a new chapter for the multi-GR GRAMMY® Award-winning band as they prepare to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their landmark album Drops Of Jupiter.
The track arrives via Columbia Records and blends acoustic and electric guitar with a soaring chorus designed for singalongs. It also spotlights a guitar solo from the band’s newest member, songwriter and guitarist Butch Walker, alongside the instantly recognisable vocals of frontman Pat Monahan.
Fans first heard the song when Train debuted it live on the US television show Live with Kelly and Mark late last year, offering an early preview of new material the band has been working on.
The release lands as Train celebrate the 25th anniversary of their breakthrough 2001 album Drops Of Jupiter, the record that propelled the San Francisco band to global success. The album’s title track remains one of their defining hits and helped establish the band’s reputation for blending rock, pop and radio-ready hooks.
Formed in 1994, Train have gone on to sell more than 10 million albums and 30 million tracks worldwide, while amassing billions of streams. Their catalogue includes major singles such as the diamond-certified Hey, Soul Sister and Drops Of Jupiter, alongside a string of chart appearances across the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 including breakthrough 1998 hit Meet Virginia.
To mark the anniversary, the band will embark on the Drops Of Jupiter: 25 Years in the Atmosphere Tour across North America this summer. The extensive run begins on 8th July in Florida and features support from Canadian favourites Barenaked Ladies and singer-songwriter Matt Nathanson across most dates.
Away from the road, Train have also announced the ninth edition of their Sail Across The Sun cruise, set to sail from Miami to Ocho Ríos, Jamaica in February 2027 aboard the Norwegian Jewel. The four-night event will include multiple performances from the band alongside fan-focused activities and guest appearances.
Before that, Monahan will take part in a tribute concert celebrating Billy Joel at Carnegie Hall in New York on 12th March. The annual charity event supports youth music and writing education programmes.
With new music arriving and a milestone anniversary to celebrate, Train’s 2026 looks set to revisit the songs that defined their career while introducing the next phase of the band’s sound.
