Video – William Poyer Shares Weight in Gold Video

by | May 13, 2019

Welsh singer-songwriter William Poyer debuts the video for his new single Weight in Gold, which was released on 19 April 2019 via Spiritual Records.

Directed by Jose Tato Grageda, the atmospheric video was shot in Mexico City and features a cameo from the director alongside William.

William’s music has been described as a blend of real-life storytelling with an intimate folk sensibility, driven by strong rhythms and melodic hooks. Back in 2013, he left his native Wales and set off on a journey of discovery to Mexico with the intention of honing a sound unique to him. He developed a stunning collection of songs that would go on to form the majority of his debut album, Born Lucky, in 2016.

Weight in Gold is nothing less than captivating. It’s folksy, bluesy and steeped in Americana with a latin sensibility. It encapsulates everything I love about music. Listening to it provides an escape from the modern world, a ride to another place. This is music that can take you to Nashville, to Mexico, to Mississippi and back in less than four minutes. It has powerful, raw vocals, thumping acoustic guitar and an incredible hook.

It’s going to be a busy year for William. We can expect another new single before his highly anticipated follow up record via Spiritual Records is released, containing exciting new material. He will tour Italy in June before returning to the UK.

It’s Americana from a boy from South Wales, and it’s brilliant. Check out the video now.

I had the pleasure of interviewing William for RockShot Mag a few years back, and the full interview is here
