Annabelle Chairlegs Shares Fuzz-Drenched New Single ‘Heavy Sleeper’ Ahead of 2026 Album ‘Waking Up’

by | Dec 4, 2025

Austin-based singer-songwriter Annabelle Chairlegs — the creative force of New Jersey native Lindsey Mackin — has released her latest single Heavy Sleeper, the third track to be lifted from her forthcoming album Waking Up, due 30th January 2026. Produced by Ty Segall and arriving via TODO, the record marks a new chapter for Chairlegs, pushing her sound into grittier, more mechanical territory without letting go of the molten hooks and melodic charm that have powered her rise.

Heavy Sleeper lets those darker currents fully rip. A haze of fuzz-fried guitars, surf-rock undercurrents and Mackin’s forceful, grunge-laced vocal delivery create a disorienting swirl between dreaming and waking life. Its accompanying video — directed by Colin Shields — leans into that fever-dream logic, mirroring the song’s hallucinatory tension.

Speaking about the track, Mackin explains: “Heavy Sleeper is the nightmare that exists in and out of sleep. We are fully free in our sleep — as we also actually are when we are awake — so which is where we are? Is it a nightmare or is it a dream?”

The new single follows Concrete Trees, a moving tribute to a late friend, and Ice Cream On The Beach, a sun-drenched standout that has already picked up enthusiastic attention from a broad range of tastemakers. Together, the tracks sketch the outlines of Waking Up’s emotional arc — a raw and revitalised soundworld shaped with the help of drummer Nick Cornetti and bassist Derek Strahan, and captured at Segall’s Topanga, CA studio.

Waking Up is Chairlegs’ third full-length release and her first label-backed outing after two self-released albums, Watermelon Summer (2017) and Gotta Be Iin Love (2020). The new LP will arrive digitally and on vinyl, with the physical edition including two bonus tracks: I Feel So Mad and Beef Witted.

Annabelle Chairlegs began years ago as Mackin’s alter ego in a college rock band, gradually evolving into the primary vessel for her songwriting. Since moving to Austin in 2013, she has built a reputation for bold, noir-tinged alt-rock, earning a 2020 Austin Music Award for Best Music Video (Outside) and sharing stages with Lucy Dacus, The Zombies, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Festival appearances across Austin City Limits, SXSW, Levitation, and Austin Psych Fest have cemented her standing as one of the city’s most electrifying performers.

She next plays Sagebrush in Austin on 13th December 2025 for The Big Red.

There’s no easing into a Prodigy show in 2026—no atmospheric intro, no gentle escalation. The lights drop at London’s iconic Wembley Arena and, without ceremony, Omen detonates. Bass surges through the floor, the crowd lurches forward, and within seconds the arena stops behaving like a seated venue and starts acting like a pressure cooker.
