Before, Texan, Nanci Griffith secured a lucrative album deal with MCA, she made four albums for the Philo record label, the best of which is The Last Of The True Believers. At the time it was lauded as one of the best ever country music albums and bought the worlds attention to a whole new raft of country artists including Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Rattlesnake Annie and Dwight Yoakam who were moving in the “same circles” as Nanci.
This album is beautifully sung and played by Nanci Griffith and has a more out-and-out country music feel to it that her previous folk influenced releases. The album contains a few classics and songs that were hits for others including the elegant song that the cover photo (can you spot Lyle Lovett) is all about Love At The Five & Dime.
