“What Chris did was a perfect blend of his crunchy Foos thing, with a little bit of his chicken-picking country guitar, because his sensibilities are country, and he loves that world,” explains Palladio.

“I’m stoked that Sam asked me to throw down some guitar on Tennessee,” adds Shiflett. “We’ve been friends for years and have played shows together, so I was more than happy to add a little solo on the track.”

The brilliant video for Tennessee pays homage to Palladio’s parallel career as an actor. Based on the set of an imaginary spaghetti western movie, with Candice King (Vampire Diaries) starring opposite the singer as his female lead, it also features ex-Nashville co-star Jonathan Jackson as the director and US singer-songwriter & producer Butch Walker (PINK, Fall Out Boy, Green Day) as Sam’s villainous adversary.

The Cornish singer and multi-instrumentalist has enjoyed a whirlwind career since he originally shot to fame in America, playing the character of Gunnar Scott in the American TV series Nashville. With many acting roles under his belt the 37-year-old most recently hit the big screens playing The Clash frontman Joe Strummer in the hugely acclaimed new biopic Bob Marley: One Love.

And yet it is music which is Palladio’s first love. Having grown up in a small-town in Cornwall as an obsessive fan of the likes of Incubus, Rage Against The Machine and Biffy Clyro, his journey to American screen success, and a place within Nashville’s diverse music scene, has all been built on his love for guitar music and telling stories through his songs.

That love is evident throughout the driving music and evocative lyrics of Tennessee. Its singalong chorus, “woo-hoo” hooks, scorching guitar and passionate rock vocal showcase how Sam Palladio is effortlessly able to cross between the worlds of music and acting and shine brightly in both.

Tennessee is taken from Sam’s forthcoming debut solo album, full details of which will be announced very soon.

The Saints @ Electric ballroom (Peter McDonnell)

The Miraculous Second Coming Of The Saints ’73-’78 At London’s Electric Ballroom

There are comebacks, and then there are resurrections. For punk devotees, the return of The Saints ’73–’78 — the latest live incarnation of the legendary Melbourne outfit — firmly belonged in the latter category. With original members Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay at the helm, and an inspired line-up completed by Mick Harvey, Mark Arm, Peter Oxley, and a three-piece brass section led by Terry Edwards, the Electric Ballroom felt less like a gig and more like a communal rite of appreciation for one of punk’s most quietly revolutionary bands.
