After 28 years of heartbreak, false dawns and near misses, Scotland are finally heading back to the FIFA World Cup — and fittingly, Skerryvore have delivered the soundtrack to the moment with their rousing new anthem, Never Stopped Dreaming.
Packed with soaring choruses, pounding folk-rock energy and unmistakably Scottish spirit, the track captures everything that has kept the Tartan Army believing through decades of disappointment. Built around themes of unity, resilience and national pride, Never Stopped Dreaming feels tailor-made for packed pubs, fan zones and late-night singalongs from Glasgow to Boston.
Opening with references to Scotland’s last appearance at the tournament in France ‘98 before turning its attention to this summer’s journey stateside, the song taps directly into the emotional release surrounding the national team’s long-awaited return to football’s biggest stage. With fiddle-driven melodies, euphoric hooks and the band’s trademark Celtic rock sound, it arrives as both a celebration and a statement of belief.
Speaking about the track, vocalist Alec Dalglish describes it as a tribute to the unwavering loyalty of Scottish supporters who kept turning up despite years outside the global spotlight. That sense of communal identity has long been central to Skerryvore’s music, and Never Stopped Dreaming channels it into something destined to become a terrace favourite.
The release lands ahead of a special World Cup warm-up party at Barrowland Ballroom, where the band will help send supporters off in style before Scotland begin their campaign against Haiti. The event also supports Street Soccer Scotland, with proceeds helping fund programmes designed to support disadvantaged communities through football.
Skerryvore’s connection to Scotland’s live music scene has only strengthened over the past two decades. Renowned for explosive festival performances and emotionally charged hometown shows, the band have evolved from grassroots favourites into one of the country’s defining modern folk-rock acts. Their 2023 album Tempus marked a commercial breakthrough, while last year’s huge 20th anniversary celebration at Floors Castle cemented their reputation as one of Scotland’s premier live bands.
With World Cup fever building and supporters preparing to descend on North America in huge numbers, Never Stopped Dreaming arrives at exactly the right moment — a heartfelt anthem for a fanbase that never lost faith.
