Swedish Dance Duo Rebecca & Fiona Tease MEGA DANCE With Heartbeat

by | Jun 22, 2024

The two-time Swedish GRAMMY® Award winners Rebecca & Fiona power forward into a new era with the news that they will release their new concept album MEGA DANCE on 27th September, previewed with new single Heartbeat.

The striking DJ/producer duo have bounded between dance, electronica and pop since debuting in 2007, their career highlights to date including an array of chart positions across Europe, their own TV docu/drama series and international shows with the likes of Robyn, Avicii, Tiësto, Kaskade and Axwell plus festivals ranging from Tomorrowland to Electric Daisy Carnival. They also teamed up with P3 to host a Swedish special of Europe’s Biggest Dance Show on Radio 1.

MEGA DANCE is an album which transports the listeners to the thumping beats, maximalist energy and all-round decadence of an iconic Ibiza club back in the heady summer of 2002. Evoking the euphoria of stepping into a night which guarantees to be a perfect party, the album is led by the duo’s sultry vocals as they conjure the atmosphere of the era: the music, the fuck-you attitude, and men sporting Von Dutch caps and a tray of shots.

Rebecca Scheja says: “We finally took some time to be undisturbed in the studio and just work. We discovered a discrepancy between the music we were creating and what we wanted to play when a DJ set reaches its absolute peak. We challenged ourselves to approach our next album without shame and ‘guilty pleasure’ thinking. So now, to everyone’s great joy, there’s a more straightforward dance album from us – filled with music we want to play in our DJ sets.”

The new single Heartbeat catapults us straight to the dancefloor. As piano house keys chime and the bass rouses to full intensity, the duo’s shared vocal harmonies capture the liberation and free spirit that flows when the dancefloor is ignited. Listen to the new tune below:

Fiona FitzPatrick adds: “Heartbeat is about a love that keeps you dancing on the edge of madness. When the whole world burns down around you, it’s hard to find your way through the chaos. And within that fire, your love is both your compass and your tempest.”

Heartbeat joins the previous singles Arena, Älskling and All Or Nothing in instigating anticipation for MEGA DANCE. Each track operates in its own space, from nostalgic Hi-NRG sounds to piano house and the soaring hooks of crossover dance, yet it comes together like a postcard picture of exactly how Iziba felt in the midst of 2002. The album will be released on their own label Big Romantic Music.

Thematically, MEGA DANCE also pulsates with the work ethic, forthright opinions, sense of style and self-empowerment that the duo have shown since their first breakthrough.

Last summer saw Rebecca & Fiona play select festival dates including Way Out West in Gothenburg and Malmo Pride. Next comes a selection of further shows in Sweden. Expect details of more MEGA DANCE shows to follow in the near future.

Download Festival XXIII (Henry Finnegan / @finneganfoto)

Download Festival Is More Than Just the Metal

I’ve been attending Download Festival since 2005. Every year, as I walk through those gates, I feel something that can be difficult to explain to people who have never experienced it. For a few days each June, I stop feeling like I’m standing on the outside looking in. I belong.

Lucia & The Best Boys Continue Their Rise With A Spellbinding O2 Shepherd’s Bush Performance

Fresh from an acclaimed appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival, Lucia & The Best Boys arrive at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire with momentum firmly on their side. Opening for the reunited 4 Non Blondes, the Glasgow quartet seize the opportunity with a commanding seven-song set that feels less like a support slot and more like a statement of intent.

4 Non Blondes Return On Their Own Terms At O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

More than three decades after their breakthrough, 4 Non Blondes arrive at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire not to relive the past, but to redefine themselves in the present. Supported by the excellent Lucia & The Best Boys, the reunited San Francisco outfit make it abundantly clear that this tour is not a nostalgia exercise. Instead, it is a bold statement of who they are now — and whether the audience is willing to come with them.

Snow Patrol @ Eden Sessions (Adam Smith)

Snow Patrol Complete The Hat-Trick At Eden Sessions In An Evening Of Heart, Humour And Hits

There are few concert settings in Britain as naturally dramatic as the Eden Sessions. Nestled within a former clay pit and framed by the iconic biomes of the Eden Project, the venue possesses a unique sense of occasion before a note is even played. On this June evening, the Cornish weather appears determined to play its part too. Persistent rain hangs over the site for much of the day, only to disappear almost on cue as Gary Lightbody, Nathan Connolly and Johnny McDaid walk on stage. It feels as though somebody has edited the weather into the evening’s script.
