Jenny Gillespie Mason has unveiled her evocative new single Medicine Of Light, the latest preview of her forthcoming album In The Safety Of The Light, arriving on 12th June via Native Cat Recordings.
Produced by acclaimed musician and producer Noah Georgeson, whose past collaborators include artists across the worlds of folk, psych and experimental music, the track further showcases Mason’s deeply intimate and spiritually rich songwriting style. Built around delicate acoustic instrumentation and hushed ensemble arrangements, Medicine Of Light feels timeless in both mood and execution — balancing pastoral folk traditions with a meditative sense of stillness.
Originally written as a brief piano composition, the song evolved significantly during the recording process. Mason explained that shifting the arrangement to acoustic guitar opened the track up emotionally and sonically, allowing it to grow into something much larger than its initial form.
“Medicine Of Light was first written on the piano and was much shorter, almost like an interlude,” Mason said. “By transferring it to acoustic guitar I could make the song fuller and longer because I felt not only would it be more fun to arrange, but that the message of the song deserved more space. It’s almost like a hymn.”
That sense of reverence flows throughout the recording. Gentle percussion, warm analogue textures and expansive woodwind flourishes create a dreamlike atmosphere that recalls the golden age of 1970s British folk while still sounding distinctly modern. There are echoes of classic pastoral songwriting traditions woven together with ambient and cosmic elements, reflecting Mason’s broad musical palette.
The single follows previous release Rungs Of Love, another deeply introspective track inspired by the teachings of spiritual figure Mother Mirra Alfassa. Together, both songs hint at the wider emotional and philosophical scope of In The Safety of the Light, an album centred around devotion, transformation and self-reflection.
Recorded during sessions in Los Angeles across 2025, the album was largely captured live with a full ensemble, lending the material an organic warmth and immediacy. It also marks something of a creative reset for Mason, who previously explored more psychedelic and electronic textures through her earlier project Sis. Returning to acoustic guitar as her primary writing tool reconnects the songwriter with the instrument she first began composing on as a teenager.
With Medicine Of Light, Mason continues to carve out a distinctive space in contemporary folk — one rooted in vulnerability, atmosphere and quiet emotional power.
