Lizzie Esau Announced For New Ivors Academy Senate

The Ivors Academy has announced a new Senate of songwriters and composers, elected by its members to champion music creators at the heart of its governance. British stars, Paloma Faith and Tinie Tempah were announced, alongside songwriters like Iain Archer – whose co-writing credits include hits Hold Back The River from James Bay and Jake Bugg’s Lightning Bolt.

25 year-old Rockshot Magazine favourite, Lizzie Esau was revealed as part of the Senate, following the release of her pop-rock anthem, She’s A Scorpio and accomplished E.P, Spilling Out The Truth. The single received repeat plays from Greg James on his BBC Radio 1 show on the days following its release and has gone down as a fan favourite live. Esau headlined Glastonbury Festival’s BBC Introducing Stage this summer.

The elected Senate members will play a key role in communicating and ensuring the the views and priorities of the songwriting community including the impact of AI and fair pay. Roberto Neri, CEO of The Ivors Academy said: “I am delighted with the outcome of the election and also the member engagement throughout the process. Alongside other issues, our new Senate will strengthen our voice in addressing the potential threat of AI, with lobbying the new Government to fix streaming and ensuring media composers sign fairer contracts.
