London’s fast-rising art-punk collective Man/Woman/Chainsaw have announced their long-awaited debut album Cannonball, set for release on 7th August. Alongside the news, the six-piece have unveiled the ambitious new single Nosedive, offering a bold glimpse into the scale and scope of their first full-length record.
Clocking in at nearly six minutes, Nosedive marks a striking evolution in the band’s sound. Built around pulsing synths and shifting dynamics, the track balances vulnerability with momentum, pairing introspective lyricism with a surprisingly danceable energy. Lead vocalist Emmie-Mae Avery describes it as a song about “longing for both comfort and freedom simultaneously,” using the metaphor of an injured bird searching for refuge before ultimately finding the strength to fly again. That emotional push-and-pull is mirrored in the music itself, which swells and releases with cinematic precision.
Recorded at the legendary RAK Studios with producers Seth Evans and Margo Broom, Nosedive signals a band unafraid to stretch beyond the frenetic art-punk energy that first brought them attention. Instead, it leans into a broader sonic palette, drawing as much from dance-punk and experimental pop as it does from their DIY roots.
Formed while still in their mid-teens and honing their sound in a converted vicarage, Man/Woman/Chainsaw have steadily built a reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling new live acts. A breakout 2025 saw them sell out London’s Scala and complete two fully sold-out UK tours, while international appearances — including a notable debut at South by Southwest — further cemented their rising status.
Their debut album Cannonball promises to capture that momentum in full. Across its eleven tracks, the record is described as a collection of “bangers” — immediate, emotionally charged songs that channel the intensity and uncertainty of youth. From the angular urgency of early singles to more expansive, theatrical compositions, the album reflects a band pushing their own boundaries while refining a distinct identity. Drummer Lola Cherry has hinted at a record that is “in your face” but also deeply considered, blending raw energy with meticulous craft.
The band’s growing ambition is matched by their relentless touring schedule. Following a summer of festival appearances, Man/Woman/Chainsaw will embark on a UK and Ireland headline tour this autumn, bringing their unpredictable and high-energy live show to a string of intimate venues.
